Betting Firms File Complaints in Brazil over Apple and Google

Brasil.-  13 de Maio de 2025 www.zonadeazar.com In recent weeks, several licensed betting companies have filed complaints with Brazil’s Ministry of Finance, citing significant barriers posed by Apple and Google in distributing their mobile applications. Operators claim that both tech giants are restricting or blocking their betting apps from appearing on their platforms.

Specifically, Google’s Play Store —the official Android app store— only allows gambling applications related to lotteries and horse racing operated by Caixa Econômica Federal. This policy effectively excludes private sports betting apps from the marketplace.

Bets, one of the affected companies, called Google’s stance inconsistent. In a statement sent to the Estadão news portal in April, Google said:
“In Brazil, Google Play policies currently only allow a limited group of gambling apps, such as lottery apps published by Caixa Econômica Federal and horse racing apps. This policy remains unchanged. Any policy changes are evaluated carefully.”
