Google Blocks Over 108 Million Online Gambling Ads

USA – April 22, 2025 – www.zonadeazar.com Google has intensified its efforts to prevent advertising scams through updates to its artificial intelligence tools.
Last year, the company reported removing over 5.1 billion fraudulent ads, restricting 9.1 billion ads, and suspending 39.2 million advertiser accounts — all thanks to improvements in its large language models, as reported by Payment Expert.
Of the 9.1 billion ads restricted in 2024, 268.3 million were related to financial services fraud. Other restricted categories included legal requirements (428.8 million, the most common type), gambling and betting (108.9 million), and copyright (115.1 million).
The tech giant made 50 updates to these models to identify bad actors using ads to deceive and scam consumers.
According to Google, the rise in abusive tactics using AI and fraud, along with global events, has contributed to the growth of ad scams. The company stated it had to remain adaptable and agile in response to this new environment.
Although the data refers only to the U.S., the rise in ad scams is often a byproduct of Authorized Push Payment (APP) fraud, which has gained increasing relevance in the UK, where it has also been on the rise.
According to Google’s data, 193.7 million financial services ads were blocked or removed in 2023, making it the fifth most impacted category by the company’s AI solutions.
Google credits much of this prevention to improvements in its large language models, which detect ad scams in real time and process solutions much faster and more efficiently than manual processes.
The company emphasized the importance of AI as an anti-fraud tool in its 2024 Ads Safety Report, explaining how advancements in these models are combating “large-scale fraud.”
The report states:
“Large language models have not only improved policy enforcement but also enhanced our ability to act more proactively than ever to prevent abuse. These AI-powered tools accelerate complex investigations, expanding our ability to uncover and stop malicious and repeat offender networks.
“These preventative efforts have stopped billions of policy-violating ads from being shown to consumers, while ensuring that legitimate businesses can advertise quickly to potential customers. One way we do this is by fighting large-scale ad fraud using signals such as business impersonation and illegitimate payment data as early indicators of potential consumer harm.
“Throughout 2024, we continued investing in early intervention against fraud at the account creation stage, which allowed us to prevent numerous harmful ads from being published. For context: we suspended over 39.2 million accounts, the vast majority before they ever ran an ad.”
