Zona de Azar Thailand – Thailand Again Considers Legalising Casinos

Thailand.- February 23, 2021 www.zonadeazar.com Thailand is again on the agenda for legalising casinos within its borders following the Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha saying it maybe time to look at solving the illegal gambling business within its country.

Many took that as the country considering opening up casinos with Thailand having some 40 million tourists per year and a population of 70 million the country is of huge interest to international casino operators.

Indeed one of the countries opposition the Thai Civilized Party and its leader Mongkolkit Suksintharanon said recently it should be time for the country to legalise gambling. He stated that tax revenues could hit a minimum of $167 million from casinos.

Thailand has been hit hard due to the COVID-19 pandemic as tourism accounts for the majority of its income and the government needs new avenues of taxation.

But talks on legalising gambling has been discussed over the last couple of decades with no movement forward, anyone taking a bet that this time will be different is a brave person.
