Alexandre Mattos Leaves Cruzeiro and Is Set to Become Santos’ New CEO

Brazil.-  June 03, 2025 www.zonadeazar.com  Cruzeiro has officially announced the departure of Alexandre Mattos from his position as CEO. Now a free agent, Mattos is close to joining Santos FC as their new CEO, filling the role left vacant after Pedro Martins stepped down last week.

Martins resigned after President Marcelo Teixeira informed him that he would no longer have a say in football-related decisions, being relegated to administrative duties.

Mattos, who had a contract with Cruzeiro until 2028, left the club by mutual agreement with SAF owner Pedro Lourenço, maintaining a relationship of respect and trust. The transition was smooth and without conflict.

Mattos joined Cruzeiro in May 2024, after a brief stint at América-MG, the club where he began his career as a football executive.

If he finalizes his move to Santos, Mattos will face the challenge of rebuilding a team currently struggling in 18th place in the Brasileirão with only 8 points. In contrast, Cruzeiro sits second in the league with 23 points from 11 matches, behind only Flamengo.
