Brazil: Reports Say Rio de Janeiro Will Host an NFL Game in 2026

Brazil.- April 10, 2025 www.zonadeazar.com The mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, stated that the city will host an NFL game in 2026, with the Maracanã being the most likely venue. During an event at UFRJ, Paes mentioned that he met with officials from the premier American football league.

“Yesterday, we were in a meeting with the NFL guys, from American football, which, personally, I don’t follow much. They had a game last year (in São Paulo), and I’ve already secured it for 2026 to be here in Rio. I wasn’t supposed to leak this, but now it’s out”, said the mayor.

In 2024, São Paulo hosted the league’s first game in Brazil, with the Eagles defeating the Packers. This year, the NFL will return to the country once again at the Neo Química Arena, Corinthians’ stadium, featuring a matchup between the Chargers and a team yet to be determined.
