Zona de Azar Argentina – Chaco Promotes Fiscal Reform with Tax Reductions for the Gaming Sector
Argentina.- March 20 2025 www.zonadeazar.com The governor of the province of Chaco, Leandro Zdero, has presented a legislative package aimed at reducing the tax burden in various sectors, including gambling. The initiative proposes replacing the tax on lottery tickets with a single tax covering both face-to-face and digital gambling.
Accompanied by the Minister of Finance and Treasury, Alejandro Abraam, Zdero highlighted the importance of this reform, stating that “it is necessary to transform the tax structure and establish solid foundations for the sustained growth of the private sector in all its areas: production, industry, commerce and goods and services”.
The proposed law envisages a progressive reduction in the general rate for different sectors, including gambling. In 2025, it will fall from 3.5% to 3.2%, and in 2026, from 3.2% to 2.9%.
For the gaming industry, the tax change seeks to establish a regulatory framework that allows for the taxation of prizes obtained in different modalities, from traditional games such as the lottery and physical casinos to digital platforms, electronic machines and online casinos, even when accessed through mobile devices.
Zdero emphasized that this measure not only adapts to technological advances, but also seeks to guarantee fiscal equity among the different players, regardless of the channel through which they participate.
In addition, he explained that 80% of the funds collected through this tax will be used to strengthen the public health system, with the creation of a special fund to improve health infrastructure and equipment.
“The aim is for this contribution to have a direct impact on one of the most essential services provided by the state, generating a tangible benefit for the community,” emphasized the governor.
For his part, Minister Abraam acknowledged that the province depends to a large extent on resources from co-participation and its own revenue, mainly through the gross income tax. However, he argued that it is key to move forward with reforms that will attract new investment and boost the local economy.
