Zona de Azar Brasil – Brazil: Special Training on the New List of Prohibited Substances and Methods

Brazil.- March 12, 2025 – www.zonadeazar.com The Brazilian Doping Control Authority (ABCD), linked to the Ministry of Sport, will hold a Special Training Session this Wednesday (12.03) at 10 a.m. on the new 2025 List of Prohibited Substances and Methods and its updates.

The online event, broadcast via Microsoft Teams, is aimed at healthcare and sports managers, athletes, athlete support personnel, and the sports community.

These special training sessions are part of the ABCD Education Plan. No registration is required to join the event. Access is available via link (insert link here).

ABCD President Adriana Taboza will open the session, which will last one hour. The first lecture will be given by Angélica Almeida de Araújo, the agency’s Therapeutic Use Authorization Coordinator. The second lecture will be led by Marcelo Rodrigues Alves Lisboa Patrício de Oliveira, ABCD’s medical expert.

“It is essential for athletes to stay informed about these updates to avoid anti-doping rule violations. Every profession has its regulations, and sports are no different. Athletes must be aware of the changes in the 2025 List, as they are responsible for everything found in their bodies. Understanding the anti-doping regulations and the Prohibited List is crucial to prevent potential violations,” emphasized Adriana Taboza, President of ABCD.

The List of Prohibited Substances and Methods in Sports is published annually based on research conducted by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Commission. A substance or method may be included or removed from the annual list based on the following criteria:

  • Potential or actual enhancement of athletic performance;
  • Real or potential risk to an athlete’s health;
  • Violation of the spirit of sport, as defined by the World Anti-Doping Code.

Given the strict liability principle, which holds athletes responsible for everything they ingest and what is detected in their bodies, as well as the obligations and responsibilities of athlete support personnel, this training is of utmost importance—especially considering the updates in the 2025 List of Prohibited Substances and Methods.
