USA.- March 21, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com [1] March Madness, the biggest U.S. sports betting event of the year, tips off tonight with the “First Four.” The American Gaming Association estimates that American adults will legally wager $2.72 billion on the 2024 men’s and women’s NCAA basketball tournaments, equivalent to 2.2 percent of the total handle legally wagered by Americans in 2023.
Today, more than two-thirds of Americans are able to wager in their home state today with the protections of the regulated market. AGA research conducted last year shows that Americans overwhelmingly support this expansion of the legal market and are quickly migrating to regulated operators.
- 85% of American adults agree with the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA).
- 77% of American adults support sports betting legalization in their state of residence.
- 77% of online sports bets are now placed through regulated operators, up from 44% in 2019.
- Nine in 10 bettors who place the most of their bests legally intend to
stay within the legal market in the next year.
