Zona de Azar Canada – Karlic Tops Day 1 of PokerStars Championship Monte Carlo €10K Opening Event

Canada.– 27 de Abril de 2017 www.zonadeazar.com  Austrian professional poker player Gerald Karlic is leading after Day 1 of the three-day €10k Opening Event at PokerStars Championship presented by Monte-Carlo Casino®.

There were 78 entries to the tournament so far (66 players + 12 re-entries). Late registration will remain open during the first two levels of Day 2 (closing approximately at 2.50pm).

Karlic bagged up 233,500 at the end of the eighth level, topping the 48-strong list of survivors. The 24-year-old hails from Vienna but lives in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Karlic’ live tournament cashes combine for just under $1 million. Both of his six-figure cashes came at EPT Barcelona, where he won the €1k Event for €110,000 back in 2013 and topped it two years leater with a €155,600 for a seventh place in the €10k High Roller.

Karlic is just ahead of German superstar Ole Schemion, who has 229,000. Schemion has a sublime collection of cashes earned here in Monaco. He crushed last year’s EPT12 Grand Final. He first won the €100k Super High Roller and then added a runner-up finish in the €50k Single-Day Event, earning nearly €2.5 million during the festival.

The poker wizard from Berlin also made the final table in the EPT11 Grand Final Main Event- He departed in sixth place worth €233,500.

Further in the past, Schemion dominated EPT9 Grand Final that took place four years ago. Aged just 20, Schemion managed to win three side events to establish himself among the fearest players on the live circuit.

In all, Schemion has racked up nearly $11.5 million in live tournaments and currently sits in second place on the stacked German all-time money list.

EPT11 London finalist Jonathan Bensadoun is in third place, with 197,100 while German pros Moritz Dietrich (184,800) and Koray Aldemir (171,100) round out the top five.

Tons of famous players will come back for Day 2 including Charlie Carrel, David Peters, Steve O’Dwyer, Anthony Zinno and Aliaksei Boika who all had a strong start to the tournament, having more than doubled their starting stacks to write six-figure numbers on their bags.

Team PokerStars Pro Felipe Ramos also survived. He has 53,800.

One-hour levels are scheduled for the remaining part of the €10k Opening Event. Play will resume at 12.30pm with level 9 (blinds will be at 600/1,200, ante 200). Late registration remains open until start of level 11.

There is yet to be a European to lift the coveted PokerStars Championship Main Event trophy. The first three titles went to all the North Americans: Christian Harder (USA) took down the inagural PokerStars Championship Bahamas Main Event while Kenneth Smaron (USA) and Elliot Smith (Canada) won the Main Events in Panama and Macau, respectively.

€1,000,000 GUARANTEED POKERSTARS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Highly successful €1,100 PokerStars National Championship has been breaking the guarantee prizes at every PokerStars Championship stop. The tournament will feature bigger guarantee than ever here in Monaco, with an even one million euro at stake. The PokerStars National Championship will feature two regular starting days (April 26 and 27) and a special turbo Day 1c, which will be restricted for players who will have been eliminated from one of the previous starting flights.

Canadian player Nicola Basile won the tournament in the Bahamas, beating a tough final table that featured Team PokerStars Pro Chris Moneymaker, David Yan, Marc-Anre Ladouceur and Maria Ho. Camilo Posada from Colombia scooped the title in Panama and Dutch pro Koen Beed topped the PokerStars National Championship Macau.

Hotbed for the high stakes poker for many years, Monaco will yet again witness the immense clashes of titans in some of the world’s highest buy-in tournaments. The PokerStars Championship presented by Monte-Carlo Casino® schedule features the ever popular €100,000 Super High Roller (April 27-29), that has previously seen the rise of American heads-up superstar Dan Colman during EPT10 Grand Final, battle of generations between Erik Seidel and Dzmitry Urbanovich during EPT11 Grand Final, as well as the triumph of European poker powerhouse Ole Schemion, who won during 2016 EPT12 Grand Final for €1,597,800 – the biggest prize of his standout career.

This year’s champion will walk away with a seven-figre score, too. There is a €1 million first prize guaranteed as part of PokerStars Makes Millionaires. There is yet another tournament with a €1,000,000 prize guaranteed for the winner – the €25,000 High Roller (May 3-5). A shot clock will be used in all NL Hold’em events with a buy-in of €5,000 and higher, with the exception of the Main Event. HOST OF STARSFUN ACTIVITIES AWAY FROM THE TABLES
While the tournament schedule offers a great deal of fun to be experienced at the poker tables, there’s a lot of #StarsFun activities prepared for the players, too.
