Zona de Azar Brazil – Brazil: Senate Can Vote on Project that Legalizes Casinos and Bingos

Brazil.- August 2, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com  Senator Irajá (PSD-TO), rapporteur of the project that authorizes the operation of casinos, bingos, Jogo do Bicho and betting on horse races in the country (PL 2.234/2022 ), defended its vote in August.

He argued that the proposal discussed for more than a year and a half in the Senate will bring gains to Brazil with an increase in the number of foreign tourists and revenue from the sector.

The project foresees the creation of two taxes, the collection of which will be shared with the states, Federal District, municipalities, Embratur and sports and culture funds.

Senators against the proposal, such as Eduardo Girão (Novo-CE), cite the strengthening of organized crime, money laundering and cases of ludopathy, which is gaming addiction. The project must return to the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) for analysis of the amendments presented in the Plenary.
