Zona de Azar Brazil – R$1 Billion Hard Rock Hotel in Gramado Can Count on a Casino

Brazil.- July 16, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com Mundo Planalto, a company from Goiás, is considering the possibility of installing a casino at the Hard Rock Hotel under construction in the Rio Grande do Sul city of Gramado. The company will be responsible for implementing and managing the project.

CEO José Roberto Nunes explained that the legislation necessary to allow this operation is still being processed in the Senate and requires presidential approval and sanction. He highlighted that the current contract is only for license to use the brand and hotel management.

Although there is still no permission for casinos in Brazil, the hotel was designed to be an integrated resort, with adequate space, structure and capacity. Additionally, the Hard Rock brand is recognized worldwide for its casino operations.

The expectation is that the Casinos Bill will be voted on and approved after the parliamentary recess, on August 1st. The text has already passed through the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) and should go to the Senate Plenary for a vote soon.

The Hard Rock Hotel Gramado, with an estimated investment of R$1 billion, will be the North American hotel chain’s largest resort in Brazil. Scheduled to open in 2027, the project will occupy an area of 143,000 m² and will have 858 apartments, five restaurants, a spa, shopping mall and event space. Alex Pariente, senior vice-president of Hard Rock International, visited the site and praised the city of Gramado for being “prepared to receive international tourists”. He was accompanied by Martin Arauz, director of legal affairs at Hard Rock International, José Roberto Nunes (CEO of Mundo Planalto) and partners Lorena Leão and Wesley Reis.

According to the City Hall, Gramado received around 5.37 million tourists between January and August 2023, representing an increase of 10% compared to the same period in 2022. The expectation is that the new hotel will attract even more visitors, boosting the economic development of the region. Furthermore, the arrival of new Hard Rock developments, such as the Hard Rock Hotel Fortaleza (Ceará) and the Hard Rock Hotel Ilha do Sol (Paraná), promises to consolidate the brand as a reference in the country’s hotel sector.
