The deal will see Betmotion branding appear in the official communication channels of the league, as well as in on-court signage. The operator will sponsor 16 weekly programs including the Game of The Week and the Weekly Show and a further four live games which will be broadcast on Facebook.

“We are proud to have the Betmotion brand alongside NBB,” Angelo Alberoni, Betmotion’s country manager for Brazil, said. “Our goal is to promote national sport and basketball is one of the main sports here in Brazil.

“More than combining our name, we will have exclusive activations during the season and we are together with other big companies that believe in the work and organization of Novo Basketball Brazil, says Angelo Alberoni, Country Manager of Betmotion for Brazil.

Álvaro Cotta, marketing director of the NBB, said the deal came at an important time as the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis has put sports funding at risk.

“The partnership with Betmotion will allow us to expand the experience of NBB fans through content, live games and interactive games,” Cotta said. “In a time of deep challenges we found Betmotion with an amplified vision for the project. We are excited about the possibilities.”

Sports betting is not yet regulated in Brazil, but the country has worked to create a framework for the vertical since 2018, when then-president Michel Temer ratified legislation that paved the way for the country’s National Congress to implement regulations.

The country has launched three consultations on the matter, the first of which was launched on 30 July, attracting 1,849 submissions. A second, which ran until 27 September, attracted 2,644 comments. The third consultation was launched in February 2020.

While the process of launching regulated sports betting has faced delays, the impact of Covid-19 helped spur action, with betting included in a plan to raise BRL37.03bn to help the country recover. In August, President Jair Bolsonaro signed a decree formally adding sports betting to the country’s Investment Partnership Program (PPI) portfolio and national privatisation programme and appointing managers for the sportsbook licensing process.
