Zona de Azar USA – Fontainebleau’s Early Struggles: Seven Weeks In and Mixed Reactions

USA.- February 2, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com All eyes are on the Fontainebleau in Las Vegas as it marks seven weeks since its grand opening on December 13. While the luxury resort has garnered attention for its celebrity-filled pre-opening and impressive design, it has also faced criticism for various issues, including the cost and quality of nachos, quiet public spaces, and limited casino loyalty tier matching.

Despite initial excitement, multiple visits in January revealed closed casino pit sections, empty slot banks, and few diners at the property’s food hall. Representatives of Fontainebleau have declined to comment on these observations.

One challenge for the new resort is building brand awareness, especially as an independent operator in a competitive market. The property aims to leverage its connection to the Miami Beach property, using its database and East Coast connections to attract customers. However, critics point out the limited window for casino loyalty tier matching during the first 24 hours of operation.

The recent departure of four senior-level executives has raised eyebrows, with industry analysts closely watching for clues about the resort’s business plans. Fontainebleau Development Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Soffer announced the appointment of Maurice Wooden as the new president, expressing confidence in Wooden’s ability to drive the resort’s growth and development.

Analysts believe that Wooden, with his experience at nearby competitors like Wynn and Encore, could bring positive changes aligned with Fontainebleau’s goals. However, they emphasize the need to give the resort more time on the market before passing judgment, citing historical examples of other Strip resorts facing initial challenges and later finding success after strategic adjustments.
