Argentina.- July 12, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com The Colombian national team, led by Argentine Néstor Lorenzo, beat Uruguay 1-0 with a goal from Jefferson Lerma and reached the decisive game of the next match against Argentina in the 2024 Copa América. The decisive match will be played on Sunday, July 14 at 9 p.m. at the Hard Rock Stadium, located in Miami Gardens, State of Florida.
With this victory in the semifinals, Colombia broke a streak of three eliminations at this stage: 2004, 2016 and 2021. In addition, it became the fourth team to reach more than one final in the 21st century after Argentina (6), Brazil (4) and Chile (2).
Lerma’s goal against Uruguay also set a record for Colombia: it is the first time that they have scored 12 goals in a single edition of the tournament, surpassing the 11 markets in the two editions in which they were finalists (1975 and 2001).
Colombia also managed to extend their unbeaten streak to 28 games, thus achieving a new record: 22 wins and 6 draws, surpassing the previous mark of 27.
Colombia’s path
Colombia had reached the semi-finals after beating Panama in the quarter-finals: they won 5-0 and moved into the top four of the competition. In the group stage, they finished with seven points thanks to victories over Paraguay and Costa Rica, as well as the draw against Brazil that left them first in the group.
