Zona de Azar Argentina – Gran Premio Nacional: On November 9th, Palermo Will Be Dressed in Elegance

Argentina.- October 24, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com On November 9th, the Argentine Hippodrome of Palermo will be dressed in elegance to host the Gran Premio Nacional (G1), one of the most iconic races on the Argentine horse racing calendar.

With a record prize of $100 million, this competition promises to be an unmissable event for horse racing lovers and betting enthusiasts alike.

This year, the Gran Premio Nacional marks the close of the racing season for 3-year-olds, and the race will cover a distance of 2,500 meters on a dirt track. The colt or filly that crosses the finish line first will not only be crowned the best of its generation but will also win the largest prize ever offered in the history of Thoroughbred racing in Argentina.

Of the $100 million prize pool, 70% will go to the owner of the winning horse, while the remainder will be distributed among the jockey, trainer, and supporting staff, including foremen and grooms.

This distribution system ensures that the victory benefits the entire team responsible for making a horse compete, highlighting the egalitarian aspect of horse racing.

In addition to the main prize, the total prize pool amounts to $229 million, ensuring rewards for horses finishing up to the tenth place, extending joy and recognition to more participants.

The competition and its requirements

However, getting to this competition is no easy feat. Out of over 6,000 foals born each year in Argentina, only a few, typically fewer than ten, manage to qualify for this once-in-a-lifetime race. Only horses that turn 3 years old by the race date are eligible to participate, adding a sense of exclusivity and anticipation among owners and fans.

Horses interested in participating must register by October 28th and then follow a schedule that includes confirming their registration and drawing post positions. Like any athlete, these colts undergo rigorous training routines to ensure they are in peak condition for the race.

Race conditions

A notable fact is that the race is not canceled due to rain unless there is a lightning storm or extreme weather conditions that affect the track, something that is rare. The Gran Premio Nacional is one of the two flagship events of the Palermo Hippodrome, along with the Gran Premio República Argentina (G1), held on May 1st.

With an unprecedented prize and the participation of the best colts in the country, the Gran Premio Nacional promises to be an exciting and surprising event, attracting a large number of spectators and horse racing enthusiasts.
