Zona de Azar Brasil – Brazil: Esportes da Sorte and Palmeiras Near 2025 Agreement
Brazil.- October 22, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com Palmeiras announced the return of advertising for its partnership with the betting company Esportes da Sorte, following discussions between the club, the company, and the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF).
According to the website Nosso Palestra, a source linked to Verdão, documents were obtained authorizing the display of the betting brand. Palmeiras’ Legal Department continues to follow up on the case, considered “legally complex.”
Palmeiras Resumes Betting Promotion
Last week, Palmeiras removed the Esportes da Sorte brand from its platforms, including the women’s team uniform and website, in compliance with CBF and Federal Government requirements.
However, the Brazilian confederation issued a letter allowing betting companies authorized by Loterj to advertise throughout Brazil until December.
The document states that “Except for companies authorized by the Rio de Janeiro State Lottery (LOTERJ), other companies may only advertise or conduct commercial promotions within their territory.”
The CBF had indicated that, starting October 11, only betting companies authorized by the Ministry of Finance could advertise. Since Esportes da Sorte was only authorized by Loterj, the company would face limitations in advertising outside the state of Rio de Janeiro. However, the entity supported continued exposure.
Additionally, on Wednesday (16), the Ministry of Finance authorized Esportes da Sorte to operate nationwide until the end of the year. It is worth noting that the authorization for state-level operations had already been confirmed on October 9.
Partnership Between Esportes da Sorte and Palmeiras
Since January 2024, Esportes da Sorte has been a partner of Palmeiras, prominently featured on the women’s soccer team jersey. During the season, the betting company proposed becoming the main sponsor of the men’s soccer team starting in 2025.
Recently, Esportes da Sorte made a significant offer to the club:
- R$ 310 million in fixed amounts
- Bonuses linked to achievements
- A three-year contract as the main sponsor
Verdão is expected to announce a new main sponsor for 2025.
Negotiations stalled, leading the club president, Leila Pereira, to suspend talks with Esportes da Sorte and other betting companies. Although the values were high, the club sought partnerships that complied with the current legislation.
Palmeiras had already seen betting companies as a promising alternative, and the board sought partnerships that would expand the club’s presence in new markets.
However, in recent months, negotiations with other potential partners did not yield the expected results, as only betting company proposals met Verdão’s expectations.
Therefore, the board decided to reconsider signing a satisfactory agreement with one of these companies, with confirmation expected soon. Crefisa, Leila Pereira’s company, is currently the sponsor but is expected to leave the team’s jersey next season. Source
