Zona de Azar Brasil – Brazil: Betting Companies Increasingly Present in Football

Brazil.- May 17, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com   Recently, the Bolavip Brasil portal reported that, although Brazil is at the forefront of investments in sponsorships by betting houses in football, other countries are joining this trend. According to the site’s research, 234 top-flight football clubs across 12 nations have a betting company as their main sponsor.

The study points out that in Germany, Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Spain, France, Holland, England, Italy, Mexico, Portugal and Turkey, at least 27% of elite teams have master sponsorship from a bookmaker.

In the Brazilian scenario, Corinthians and Flamengo are the leaders in terms of investments received from betting houses. Corinthians has an annual contract worth R$120 million with VaideBet, while Flamengo receives R$85 million from Pixbet. Recently, Vasco displayed for the first time the Betfair logo, its new master sponsor, which will contribute R$115 million by the end of 2025.

Other clubs such as Fluminense and São Paulo also have significant partnerships with Superbet. Furthermore, the agreements between Betano and Atlético Mineiro, Betsat and Vitória, and Stake and Juventude stand out, the latter being the largest sponsorship partnerships in the history of the Vitória and Juventude clubs.

Currently, Spain, Italy and Türkiye do not have sponsorships from sports betting companies. On the other hand, England, Portugal, Holland, Belgium, Brazil and Mexico are the countries where these companies predominate in the market.

Brazil is in the midst of a regulatory process that should significantly boost the sports betting market in the country. Large international corporations, such as DraftKings and BetMGM, have already expressed interest in operating in Brazil, being among the 130 companies that expressed interest in a Treasury notice at the end of last year.

Interestingly, the list includes names like Kwai, television channels and even Caixa Econômica Federal, which has already outlined plans to enter the sports betting market soon.

The regulatory process is still ongoing, with companies adapting to the standards established by legislation sanctioned by President Lula at the end of 2023. Last week, the National Congress unanimously rejected the presidential vetoes, establishing that only investors with profits above the Income Tax exemption limit of R$2,259.20 will be taxed.
