The group intended to rig matches for their own benefit.

According to ge, the bettors invested the amount in Patrocinense, a team from Minas Gerais that competed in the Série D of the Brasileirão in 2024. Patrocinense had been facing financial difficulties since the start of the season and reportedly received the money to lose the first half of the match against Inter de Limeira by at least two goals.

The match in question ended with a 3-0 scoreline in favor of Inter de Limeira, with all the goals scored in the first half. According to the ge publication, the fraud was discovered, leading to losses for the bettors.

Patrocinense, on the other hand, received support from AIR Golden, an agency linked to businessman Anderson Ibrahim Rocha, in March of this year. However, according to Federal Police investigations, the club was leased to serve as a means to manipulate results and meet the bettors’ demands.

Anderson Ibrahim Rocha was the subject of an arrest warrant in June this year. That same month, Patrocinense’s management issued a statement indicating that it had complied with all requests made by the Federal Police to contribute to the investigations.

“Clube Atlético Patrocinense informs that no member of the current management, technical committee, or any athlete belonging to the current squad of the club is linked to the aforementioned process.”
