Zona de Azar Brasil – Brazil: CPI Hears Businessman and President of the Football Federation

Brazil.- December 10, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com At a meeting this Wednesday (11), starting at 10:00 a.m., the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry into Manipulation of Games and Sports Betting (CPIMJAE) will hear the testimonies of businessman Ede Vicente Ferreira Júnior and the President of the Football Federation of the Federal District, Daniel Vasconcelos.

Ede Ferreira was summoned to testify to clarify the events that led to his investigation in Operation VAR, launched by the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro, which investigates suspicions of match-fixing in Série B games of the Carioca Football Championship.

One of the matches under investigation was the game between the U-20 teams of Nova Cidade and Belford Roxo, which took place on June 5, 2024. At that time, Ede Vicente Ferreira Júnior was the coach of Nova Cidade and also responsible for the company subcontracted to manage the U-20 team, according to testimony given to the CPI by the club’s president, Jorge Luiz Pacheco Eloy. The request for the businessman’s testimony was presented by Senator Romário (PL-RJ), rapporteur of the CPI (REQ 175/2024 – CPIMJAE).

Meanwhile, Daniel Vasconcelos was invited to testify before the committee by Senator Carlos Portinho (PL-RJ).
