Zona de Azar Brasil – Brazil: Discuss the Liberation of Casinos and Bingos in Brazil

Brazil- May 9, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com  The public hearing scheduled by the Comisión de Constitución y Justicia (CCJ) of the Senate for June 9, at 10 am, aims to discuss a proposed law the legalization of casinos, bingo, Jogo do Bicho and bets on horse races.

Senator Irajá (PSD-TO) is the rapporteur of PL 2.234/2022, and the presidency of the CCJ is under the command of senator Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP).

Senators Carlos Viana (Podemos-MG) and Eduardo Girão (Novo-CE) requested the holding of a public hearing.

The project was prepared by Renato Vianna, former federal deputy, and received approval in the Chamber of Deputies at the beginning of 2022.

The participation of several experts and representatives of the sector is confirmed in the debate, including lawyers, presidents of associations and professionals in the sector.

Among the participants, André Estevão Ubaldino Pereira, inspector of the Public Ministry of Minas Gerais; Doreni Caramori, president of the Brazilian Association of Event Promoters; and Guilherme Luís Dias, specialist in supervision and regulation.

Ley Project 2,234/2022 suggests the creation of casinos in tourist areas or recreational ventures, such as luxury hotels. The proposal is to allow one casino per state and in the Federal District, with the possibility that São Paulo receives three and other states above.

Senator Irajá only presented one textual proposal to the original project, discarding four other proposals proposed by the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ). One of these bills, written by Carlos Viana, aimed to eliminate the regulation of casinos and gambling games.

In addition to the participants confirmed for the public hearing, the inclusion of more invited guests is considered to ensure a broader and more varied discussion. This includes representatives from the hotel industry and experts in medical care.

Asimismo, cited members of the entertainment industry. Among those invited, for example, Alex Pariente, vice-president of Casinos and Hotels at Hard Rock International, and Antônio Geraldo da Silva, psychiatrist and president of the Brazilian Psychiatric Association.
