Brazil.- July 10, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com In a lawsuit filed by a public servant, the São Paulo Court condemned the betting platform Free Bet Ltda., based in Niterói (RJ), for not paying the prize won by a client, as reported by Folha de S. Paulo.

The customer had bet R$1,000 on a Danish first division match, with a quote of 5.75. After winning, he tried to redeem R$8,498 (including accumulated balance), but the bookmaker only paid R$3,498.

After several complaints and attempts to receive the prize, the website claimed that the bet was suspected of fraud and canceled the ticket.

“No evidence of this fraud or manipulation of the result was presented at any time,” the bettor told the court. “The game was held in another country, where the Danish federation validated the result, with the bookmaker’s response being a mere attempt to avoid its legal obligations”, declared the bettor in the action.

Judge Carolina Tassinari rejected Free Bet’s defense, which claimed to have canceled the bet due to suspected fraud in the customer’s account, and not in the event itself. The company argued that the customer used to place small bets and that the canceled bet, with a higher value, indicated atypical behavior, characterizing “suspicious activity”. Therefore, using its advanced risk analysis system, the company decided to cancel the award.

Free Bet was ordered to return the remaining amount, but can still appeal the decision.
