Zona de Azar Brasil – Brazil: Transparency Will Be Essential Between Betting Operators and Consumers

Brazil.- October 16, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com Protection for bettors and new anti-fraud rules are key highlights in the regulation of betting in Brazil.

With the establishment of sports betting regulation in Brazil, the goal is to ensure safety for bettors and prevent fraud in the market.

One of the measures set to begin in 2025 is the requirement for user identity verification, where platforms must request CPF and bank data confirmation to avoid the creation of fake accounts and the misuse of third-party information.

Another important point is combating match-fixing, where operators will be required to adopt monitoring systems, in partnership with sports integrity organizations, to identify suspicious activity. When there is suspicion of manipulation, investigations will be carried out in collaboration with sports authorities and law enforcement to ensure proper use.

The regulation also establishes measures to prevent gambling addiction, offering bettors the option of temporary or permanent self-exclusion. Additionally, platforms must provide tools within their systems that allow users to set deposit and betting limits, helping with financial control and promoting the now-famous “responsible gaming.”

Transparency will be essential in the relationship between operators and consumers, as betting houses will need to provide clear information about odds, payment deadlines, and promotion rules, avoiding misunderstandings or unclear terms. Terms and conditions must be presented in Portuguese and in an accessible format, so that any bettor can understand them without difficulty.

To resolve conflicts efficiently, platforms will be required to offer customer service channels with defined response times. If no agreement is reached, a national regulatory body can act as a mediator in disputes between bettors and operators, ensuring a fair and quick solution.

Another relevant aspect of the regulation is the regular audits that platforms must conduct to ensure their systems operate fairly and transparently. Additionally, betting houses will have to submit periodic reports to the regulatory authority, detailing their operations and financial transactions, as part of efforts to combat money laundering.

With these measures, the government aims to create a safe environment in the betting market, protecting both bettors and the integrity of the sport, while promoting good practices in the sector.
