Brazil.- May 24, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com The Brazilian midfielder, Lucas Paquetá was reported this Thursday, 23rd, by the FA, England Football Federation, for misconduct related to betting on four Premier League matches League.
The formal accusation released by the FA states that the Brazilian forced yellow cards in games played between November 2022 and December 2023, three in the last season and one in the current season.
The athlete had been the target of investigation since August last year, but had not yet been formally charged. Now, Lucas Paquetá will have until July 3rd to present his official defense. Paquetá spoke out about the matter through a post on his social networks, where he denied the accusations.
“I am extremely surprised and upset that the FA have decided to charge me. I have cooperated at every stage of the investigation and provided all the information I could during these nine months. I deny the allegations in full and will fight with all my strength to clear my name. Due to the ongoing process, I will not be providing further comment,” the West Ham midfielder posted.
Check out the FA statement below.
It is alleged that he sought to directly influence the progress, conduct or any other aspect or occurrence in these matches by intentionally seeking to receive a card from the referee with the improper purpose of affecting the betting market so that one or more people profit from betting.
Through an official note, West Ham, the club where Lucas Paquetá plays, also took a position on the matter. The club stated that it will continue to defend the athlete, as you can see below.
The club confirms receipt of the FA’s complaint against Lucas Paquetá for alleged rule violations. Lucas categorically denies these violations and will continue to defend his position robustly. The club will continue to support the player throughout the process. And will not comment further until the matter is concluded.
According to the FA, the matches where Paquetá violated the laws were against:
