Zona de Azar Brasil – Projection Esporte Brasil 2024: 240 Community Sports Spaces in Vulnerable Areas
Brazil.- December 20, 2024, www.zonadeazar.com The most vulnerable areas across the country benefited from the construction of 240 Community Sports Spaces in 239 municipalities and the Federal District, carried out by the Ministry of Sports in 2024. These sports spaces are part of the Novo PAC – Development and Sustainability Program, a federal government initiative aimed at providing access to spaces for sports and leisure activities, contributing to violence reduction, community bond strengthening, and the mitigation of social and regional inequalities.
The Community Sports Spaces include infrastructure such as small-sided soccer fields, 3×3 basketball courts, walking tracks, children’s playgrounds, and modern lighting. They also feature public spaces and furniture designed to foster community bonds and encourage an active and healthy lifestyle for all ages, especially in vulnerable social areas. The estimated investment is R$ 1.5 million.

“These facilities are intended for physical activities and leisure for people of all ages. They transform communities, enhance neighborhoods, and provide spaces for families to gather on weekends. This initiative is part of the PAC, and we aim to create between 600 and 1,000 units across Brazil,” highlighted Minister Fufuca.
More than 4,000 proposals submitted by 3,352 entities across the 27 federal units were analyzed and classified as eligible and selected. Proposals that met the Ministry of Sports’ requirements and already had suitable land designated for the Community Sports Space were classified as eligible. The next step is the bidding process.
“We hope to inaugurate these spaces next year in different regions of the country. This year marked the initial steps, with allocated funds and some municipal bidding processes underway. These spaces will offer family interaction, leisure, and numerous benefits for communities,” concluded Paulo Henrique Cordeiro, National Secretary of Amateur Sports, Education, Leisure, and Social Inclusion.
