Zona de Azar Brazil – Brasil: Minister of Tourism Wants a Resort with Casino in Every State

Brazil.- July 17, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com The Minister of Tourism, Celso Sabino, declared last Monday (15) that the government is optimistic regarding the sanction of the Bill (PL) that legalizes casinos and bingos in Brazil.

The goal, according to the minister, is to have at least one integrated resort in each state.

Resorts with casinos

Integrated resorts offer a wide range of services and entertainment, including casinos, in sophisticated hotel complexes. According to Sabino, “just one project will mobilize more than R$1 billion for its implementation”.

“There will be states that may have more than one, given their territorial size and population”, explained the minister.

These resorts will allow Brazil to “be like other countries in the world that already allow the exploration” of games, such as the United States, Uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina, destinations already sought after by Brazilians for this activity.

But the simple approval of this project does not mean that anyone will be able to play in any establishment. Gambling will be restricted to integrated resorts and specific areas within these locations. So, in these spaces, it will be possible to play roulette, cards and dice only in these controlled environments.

The Cassinos PL has already been approved by the Chamber of Deputies in the first half of 2022 and is now being processed in the Federal Senate. But this is a debate that has been going on for more than 30 years.

The project provides for the legalization of casinos, as long as they are in high-end resorts and hotels. In addition, Jogo do Bicho and betting on horse races outside of racetracks can also be permitted.

On June 19th, the proposal was approved by the Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ) of the Senate. The next step is the vote in the Plenary and then the presidential sanction by Lula (PT).

Expectations for voting after the recess

Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), president of the Senate, declared that the vote will take place after the parliamentary recess, which runs from July 17th to August 1st. Therefore, the Minister of Tourism wants the vote in the plenary to take place “in the first weeks of August”.

“We created a well-structured project that managed to overcome the Chamber’s barriers. I imagine that the senators of the Republic will also have this commitment”, stated the minister.

Therefore, the legalization of casinos and other games promises to be a milestone for tourism in Brazil. The projection is that the gaming and casino market will bring significant investments and expand entertainment options for national and international tourists.
