Zona de Azar Brazil – Brazil: Absences Noted in the Initial List of Licensed Betting Companies
Brazil – October 4, 2024 – www.zonadeazar.com This morning, October 3, Corinthians notified Esportes da Sorte, the club’s main sponsor, about the absence of the company in the preliminary list of operators authorized to operate in Brazil until December 31 of this year, issued by the Ministry of Finance earlier this week. According to the official club website, Corinthians sought to understand the current situation of Esportes da Sorte.
According to reports, the Corinthians management sent an extrajudicial notification to the company on October 2, aiming to gather more information in order to “make a decision regarding the agreement.”
The São Paulo team might follow the steps of Athletico-PR, which suspended its partnership with Esportes da Sorte. Data from UOL indicates that Corinthians would be entitled to R$100 million as a penalty in case of contract termination, if the Ministry of Finance revokes or nullifies the company’s operating license.
At the moment, the club has reaffirmed its partnership with Esportes da Sorte, but stressed that it is seeking clarifications.
“Sport Club Corinthians Paulista reaffirms its confidence in Esportes da Sorte, our sponsorship partner, which has fully complied with the contract. The club is in contact with the partner and has sent a request for clarification regarding the status and next steps in the operation’s regularization process. The club remains attentive to any developments, always prioritizing the institution’s interests and those of our loyal fans,” said Corinthians.
Ministry of Finance Updates Preliminary List of Licensed Companies
In the updated release of the preliminary list of betting companies authorized to operate in Brazil until the end of the year, the Ministry of Finance noted that some companies were excluded due to information “that calls into question fundamental elements needed to operate, such as the integrity of individuals and legal entities involved, as well as the origin and use of funds.”
According to the Ministry of Finance’s Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA), there was a system error in receiving notifications, leading to the absence of some companies from the initial list. Esportes da Sorte remains off the list of companies authorized to operate nationwide. According to an investigation conducted by SBC Notícias Brasil, the company has already contacted the Ministry of Finance and is awaiting a rectification from the government.
