“Sports are responsible for safeguarding the integrity of the sport itself, with contact with the athletes. There is an association with the Ministry of Health because there is a real concern about gambling disorder and excessive gambling.

We also have an alliance with the Ministry of Justice through the National Strategy to Combat Corruption and Money Laundering,” explained Fred.

The sports betting bill, known as “apostas,” was approved by Congress and sanctioned by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at the end of 2023.

Subsequently, the government created the Department of Prizes and Betting, linked to the Ministry of Finance, at the end of January.

“In Fazenda, we will take care of the integrity of the bet because, as we know, manipulation occurs through betting. When the bet comes to us and so much money has been moved, who is the operator, what is the bettor’s identification, that will be the concern of the Ministry of Finance,” revealed the coordinator.
