Zona de Azar Brazil – Brazil: Eight Cell Phone Manufacturers to Incorporate Betting Apps
Brazil.- September 20, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com The National Consumer Secretariat (Senacon) announced that on Thursday, September 19, it sent notifications to eight cell phone manufacturers requesting explanations about the potential pre-installation of betting apps on new devices.
Among the notified companies are major market players such as Samsung and LG.
According to Senacon, the companies will have ten days to respond to the notification. These companies include:
- Samsung Brazil
- DL Comércio e Indústria de Produtos Eletrônicos (Xiaomi distributor)
- LG Brazil
- Motorola Mobility
- Positivo
- Multilaser
- TCL Semp Electronics
- Asus Brazil
The notification questions the existence of possible commercial agreements between cell phone manufacturers and companies specializing in online gambling.
Senacon also stated that the pre-installation of such apps without user consent constitutes an abusive practice and violates the law.
If there are any agreements, Senacon requested the submission of signed contract documents. Failure to provide clarification may result in penalties for the manufacturers, ranging from fines to the initiation of administrative proceedings, as provided for in the Consumer Protection Code.
