Zona de Azar Brazil – Brazil: Request to Suspend Betting Sites, Like We Did with “X”
Brasil.- September 19, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com Senator Omar Aziz (PSD-AM), in a speech on the Senate floor this Tuesday (17th), announced that he filed an Action for Non-compliance with Fundamental Principles (ADPF) with the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic (PGR).
The request aims to suspend the operation of betting platforms, commonly referred to as betting sites. The senator criticized the lack of regulation for online gambling.
— I hope the PGR can act swiftly, because at this moment, millions of Brazilians are gambling online and losing money. This is money that is often used to buy medicine; it’s the retiree who stops buying medicine, stops buying food to try their luck — he said.
He stated that many Brazilian families are currently facing difficulties directly related to the growth of online betting. The senator also criticized the Brazilian Association of Radio and Television (Abert), which he accused of “passivity regarding betting advertisements.” For the senator, celebrities, including football players, are encouraging young people and children to gamble. He emphasized that the situation requires urgent action, comparing it to the measure that suspended the social network X.
— When Alexandre de Moraes wanted to take X offline, didn’t he? Now is the time to disconnect betting sites. It’s unacceptable for the Brazilian Justice to remain passive while the Statute of Children and Adolescents (ECA) is being disrespected, while human rights are violated, and while a series of things happen to Brazilian families. And everyone stays passive! Source: Senado Agency
