Zona de Azar Brazil – Brazil: Corinthians and Nike Present New T-Shirts Against Racism

Brazil.- May 6, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com With actions to combat racism, Corinthians and Nike present new shirts. Under the campaign motto “Our history is a black page”, club and brand joined forces with the Observatory of Racial Discrimination in Football.

Corinthians and Nike revealed, on Thursday night (2), the new jerseys of the season. Under the campaign motto “Our history is a black page”, the club and the brand also joined forces to promote initiatives to combat racism.

The men’s soccer team will debut on the field with uniform number two, “blackout”, in the match against Fortaleza, on Saturday (4), at the Neo Química Arena.

Predominantly white, the new main jersey features white to black gradient detailing on the sleeves and hem of the jersey. The second uniform features a “blackout” pattern, completely black.

Actions to combat racism

In a context where at least 41% of players and professionals working in the country’s main championships have experienced racism, actions to combat this problem are crucial. To this end, the club and the brand promote, in collaboration with the Observatory of Racial Discrimination in Football (ODRF), racial literacy sessions for youth athletes, professional teams (men’s and women’s) and employees.

The brochure “Combating Racism in Football” will also be available, material that will serve as a reference for actions with fans throughout the year and which is available for free on nike.com.

In collaboration with the Business-School Integration Center (CIEE), a call will be launched on May 15 to offer full scholarships to 20 young black people for the administration course at the Fundação Escola de Sociologia e Política de São Paulo (FESPSP), which will have disciplines focused on the sports market. In addition, students will receive financial aid and psychosocial support during their graduation period.

Of the 20 scholarships, nine will be allocated to participants in social initiatives supported by Nike in São Paulo, through Fisia, the brand’s distributor in Brazil. Another nine will be for young people linked to the CIEE and two for athletes federated by Corinthians. The initiative aims to increase black representation in sports management. Furthermore, the club is committed to prioritizing the hiring of these students in future selection processes.

“Since its founding at the beginning of the last century, Corinthians has always been popular, inclusive and a defender of democratic and multicultural sports practice. But more needs to be done. That is why we are in this cause, together with Nike and other partners, in this fight against racism in a practical way, going far beyond campaigns and uniforms. Corinthians has always been and will be the Alvinegro Paulista, the People’s Team,” stated the president of Corinthians, Augusto Melo.

“The partnership between Nike and Corinthians to promote racism conferences for professional and youth teams is extremely important. It is a crucial step towards racial literacy within football, an environment that unfortunately remains fertile for these types of crimes. The greatness of these two institutions united in this awareness-raising effort demonstrates a real commitment to the promotion of equality and the fight against racism, and we hope that this initiative inspires other organizations to follow the same path,” reports Marcelo Carvalho, Director from ODRF.

“We are committed to promoting equality and respect in all areas, especially in sport, which should be a space of inclusion. That is why we support organizations and people so that they feel empowered to fight racism. We believe that football plays a fundamental role in this process of change,” added Gustavo Viana, Marketing Director of Fisia, Nike Official Distributor in Brazil.

The bell

The “Our History is a Black Page” campaign is a collective call to the anti-racist fight. Signed by the agency Wieden + Kennedy SP, the campaign includes a manifesto film and stars the former player Wladimir, the singer and rapper Negra Li, the athletes of the current cast Wesley, Raniele, Yasmim and Ju Ferreira, the former player Grazi and the student Anna. Beatriz, thus representing the black prominence of different generations in the history of the club.
