Zona de Azar Brazil – Ministry of Sports Intensifies Measures Against Online Betting Crimes

Brazil.- November 20, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com The Ministry of Sports, through the newly created National Secretariat for Sports Betting and Economic Development of Sports (SNAEDE), has submitted a formal complaint to the Ministry of Justice and Public Security regarding serious irregularities found on platforms like YouTube. According to the investigation, dozens of accounts and channels promote quick and easy gains without warning about the associated risks.

The research conducted by SNAEDE identified a network of more than 53 accounts and 25 YouTube channels encouraging betting with deceptive promises of easy profits, attracting audiences exceeding 100,000 viewers per broadcast. Digital influencers play a central role in these practices, promoting the schemes and giving them an appearance of legitimacy.

“We are talking about thousands of Brazilians who, deceived by promises of easy money, end up becoming victims of fraud. Sports betting must be regulated to ensure transparency and safety for the population. Our priority is to protect Brazilians and safeguard the integrity of sports,” stated Minister of Sports André Fufuca.

The investigation also points to the possible existence of a parallel market structure involving influencers, advertisers, and developers, all benefiting financially.

SNAEDE found that the sites promoted by influencers collect money from bettors but fail to pay the promised winnings. They then deactivate the sites and disappear with the funds invested by the public.

“These sites hide behind social media platforms to carry out scams. They deceive people through influencers, promising quick earnings and money for bills, groceries, or extra income. But this isn’t betting; it’s a crime against the public economy,” explained Giovanni Rocco, Secretary of Sports Betting and Economic Development of Sports.

The Ministry of Sports has requested support from the Ministry of Justice to deepen the investigations and, if necessary, involve the Federal Police to dismantle this network due to the severe damage caused to the public economy. Communication Office – Ministry of Sports
