Zona de Azar Brazil – Brazil: Government Studies Use of “.bet” Domain for Betting Sites

Brazil.- April 03, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com  The Ministry of Finance plans to create its own extension for online betting and casino websites in Brazil.

The entity wishes to create the “.bet” extension, which will be exclusively used by companies in the sector and will precede “.br” in the URLs.

The Brazilian Network Information Center (NIC.br) was informally consulted by the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee, which is the body responsible for creating domains in the country.

With the creation of the domain, the intention is to help users identify which companies are authorized to operate in Brazil, as well as to prevent scams or frauds and streamline the inspection and monitoring of irregularities.

It has not yet been decided who will be responsible for authorizing or not authorizing certain sites and determining which addresses are regular and allowed. According to information, the process is not expected to result in major discussions, but some members of the Ministry of Finance prefer the use of “apostas” (bets) instead of “bets”.

The expectation is that a significant portion of the responsibilities will fall on the Ministry of Finance and also on the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting.
