Zona de Azar USA – MGM Becomes First Gaming Company to Sign up to UN Water Mandate

USA.- February 22, 2023 www.zonadeazar.com MGM Resorts has signed the United Nations CEO Water Mandate, which is aimed at highlighting and addressing the water crisis around the world.

In signing the UN’s mandate, MGM has become the first gaming company to do so, committing to report annually its progress across six elements – including reducing water risks, seizing water-related opportunities and contributing to water security.

MGM Resorts CEO and President Bill Hornbuckle said: “Given our environmental conditions, Las Vegas has long been innovative in its approach to water. We are fortunate to do business in a place that has a world-class water management system and hope to help others learn from successes here.

“The ongoing drought and effects of climate change in the Western US are a wake-up call that we need to do more; and to that end we’re proud to endorse the CEO Water Mandate to not only share what we’ve learned in Las Vegas but also help strengthen our commitments.”

MGM owns the Bellagio hotel resort in Las Vegas, which has the famous water fountains at the front for all to see. So, by agreeing to hold to the UN’s goals and ideals, the fountains could be subject to changes.

From 2007 to 2021, MGM managed to reduce its water usage by 37% by using modern techniques such as replacing over 200,000 square feet of real grass with drought-tolerant landscaping in Las Vegas.

It installed water-efficient fixtures and equipment in guest rooms, kitchens and laundry facilities, also using an onsite well and pool drainage from the ‘O’ Theater as source water for Lake Bellagio.

Finally, it enhanced the efficiency of Las Vegas cooling tower systems to reduce evaporative loss.
