Zona de Azar China – Macau’s October Hotel Occupancy Reaches 82.8%, Driven by 5-Star Lodgings

China.- November 30th 2023 www.zonadeazar.com In October, the average occupancy rate of hotel rooms in Macau experienced a significant year-on-year increase of 41.1 percentage points, reaching 82.8%. This marks an improvement from the 78.6% rate observed in August.

According to data from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), the October figures included an impressive 45.4 percentage point surge for 5-star hotels, reaching an occupancy rate of 85.6% compared to the same period last year. This growth occurred despite the total number of hotel establishments increasing by 19 year-on-year to 137, and the number of rooms rising by 24.8% to 46,000.

The number of guests in hotel establishments for October witnessed a substantial year-on-year growth of 151.8% to 1,247,000. Mainland China contributed the largest share with 904,000 guests, followed by 187,000 from Hong Kong and 28,000 from Taiwan. The average length of stay for guests remained steady at 1.6 nights.

Looking at the cumulative data for the first 10 months of 2023, the average occupancy rate of guest rooms in hotel establishments increased by 43.0 percentage points year-on-year, reaching 80.9%. The total number of guests also saw a notable year-on-year increase of 159.9%, totaling 11,041,000. However, the average length of stay decreased slightly by 0.1 nights to 1.7 nights.

The DSEC also reported that 170,000 visitors arrived in Macau on package tours in October, contributing to a 10-month total of 914,000 visitors.
