Zona de Azar USA – Record-Breaking Week for New York Sportsbooks with $67 Million in Revenue
USA.- January 2nd 2024 www.zonadeazar.com Empire State mobile betting apps celebrated a historic week as the New York State Gaming Commission revealed a record $67.3 million in sports wagering revenue for the week ending Sunday, Jan. 14. This impressive figure surpassed the previous record of $62 million set during the week of Oct. 15.
The excitement was fueled by three online operators achieving all-time highs in weekly winnings, while another three secured top-five marks. FanDuel notably extended its state record, raking in $33.4 million for the biggest winning week among the nine mobile sportsbooks in New York. This surpassed its previous high of $32.3 million in the week ending Sept. 10.
The collective hold for sportsbooks reached 15.1%, ranking second only to the 15.4% achieved in the week of Oct. 15. The NFL wild card weekend played a significant role in the success, especially with the unexpected 48-32 loss of the Dallas Cowboys at home to the seventh-seeded Green Bay Packers.
The Cowboys’ defeat likely triggered a chain reaction of blown-up parlays, contributing to favorable outcomes for the sportsbooks. Another significant win for the house occurred with the Cleveland Browns losing 45-14 to the Houston Texans in the first game of the postseason.
This marked the fifth instance of mobile betting revenue surpassing $50 million in 106 weeks, with three of those occurrences happening within the last 14 weeks. The overall handle amounted to $445.7 million, experiencing a slight 1.4% decrease compared to the first week of 2024.
Among the nine books, seven achieved double-digit holds, with only BetMGM (9.6%) and WynnBET (2.4%) falling slightly short. Resorts World, one of the three books with its best week in New York, led all operators with a remarkable 20.1% win rate, retaining over $321,000 from the $1.6 million worth of bets it accepted.
FanDuel continues to dominate, being the only operator to surpass $30 million in weekly revenue, achieving this milestone twice. DraftKings had its second-best week in New York, claiming $23.2 million in winnings with a 15.4% hold from close to $150.8 million handle.
Caesars reached over $5 million in revenue for the first time since the week ending Jan. 22, achieving an 11.8% win rate from $45.8 million worth of bets. BetMGM finished the week with $2.6 million in revenue, while BetRivers had its fifth-best total at $1.2 million from a $10.7 million handle.
Bally Bet achieved an all-time revenue high, retaining over $224,000 from $1.6 million in bets. PointsBet secured a top-five haul at nearly $960,000 with a 15% win rate on a $6.4 million handle, while WynnBET was the only operator to fall short of six figures, earning just over $51,000 from $2.1 million bet.
