Zona de Azar Argentina – AFA Creates Integrity Commission to Combat Match-Fixing and Illegal Betting

Argentina.- January 6th 2025 www.zonadeazar.com In order to tackle match-fixing and illegal betting, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) established the Governance, Transparency, and Integrity Commission. This decision was made during the Executive Committee session on December 20, 2024.

In the meeting, attended by Argentine club executives, it was agreed that the new commission will have as its main responsibilities “the development of integrity and transparency policies, aligned with the best governance practices, within clubs affiliated both directly and indirectly with AFA.”

Additionally, the commission will be tasked with conducting diagnostics and proposing solutions to address the challenges posed by online gambling, particularly concerning minors’ access to sports betting.

In the vote that approved the creation of the commission, it was also assigned the responsibility of working in coordination with the Integrity Division and the Ethics and Compliance Department. Both sectors will handle the following tasks:

a. Develop training programs for various football stakeholders, focusing on the prevention of match-fixing.

b. Establish standards for clubs to adopt confidential reporting channels, where incidents related to match-fixing and other violations of AFA’s Code of Ethics can be reported, ensuring the protection of the whistleblower.

c. Develop action proposals to ensure strict adherence to the prohibitions outlined in AFA’s Code of Ethics.

d. Conduct a diagnostic review and present proposals for addressing online gambling and the access of minors to sports betting
