Brazil.- 1th February 2024 www.zonadeazar.com In a significant development, the federal government has introduced a Decree through the Official Gazette of the Union, officially forming the Secretariat for Prizes and Bets within the Ministry of Finance.

This novel organizational framework, given the green light by the presidency, has been set in motion to regulate and supervise various activities, encompassing the gratuitous distribution of prizes, lottery operations, sweepstakes, and a spectrum of betting modalities.

The Prizes and Betting Secretariat will be structured into three distinct sub-secretariats: Authorization, Monitoring and Inspection, and Sanctioning Action. Each of these sub-secretariats will shoulder specific responsibilities, ranging from evaluating authorization requests and overseeing activities to implementing administrative sanctions.

Beyond its regulatory and oversight functions, the Secretariat will play a pivotal role in proposing public policies relating to lotteries, reinforcing governance, and fortifying accountability in government initiatives. Additionally, it will engage in comprehensive studies to inform the Ministry’s engagement in pertinent forums.

Among its varied responsibilities, the Secretariat will take charge of supplying indispensable information technology systems and formulating guidelines to uphold responsible gaming practices.

This includes contemplating the potential imposition of limitations on bets, both per event and per individual bettor, as part of an overarching strategy to safeguard consumers and ensure a secure and ethical betting environment.
