Zona de Azar USA – American Gaming Association Reports Record Third-Quarter Revenue
USA.- November 22, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com Driven by growth in sports betting and iGaming, U.S. commercial gaming revenue hit $17.1 billion in the third quarter of 2024. This marks the highest Q3 revenue on record, according to the American Gaming Association’s release of its “Commercial Gaming Revenue Tracker” on Thursday.
It also represents the 15th consecutive quarter of revenue growth for the gaming industry, with September marking the 43rd straight month of year-over-year increases in commercial gaming revenue.
“Q3 2024 continued gaming’s momentum from the first half of the year, with online casino and sports betting driving strong growth,” said AGA Vice President of Research David Forman in a statement. “At the same time, new brick-and-mortar casino openings bolstered traditional gaming, which still accounts for the bulk of industry revenue. More than a quarter of commercial revenue now regularly comes from online sources, raising the importance of continued sustainable growth with consumers in those states.”
In the first nine months of 2024, U.S. commercial gaming was $53.24 billion, 8.0% ahead of the total in 2023, putting the industry on track for a fourth-straight record-revenue year.
Sports betting increased 42.4% in the quarter, with legal wagers of $30.3 billion generating $3.2 billion in revenue. The AGA stated that market launches in Kentucky, Maine, North Carolina, and Vermont contributed to the increase.
Revenue from igaming was $2.08 billion, a 30.3% year-over-year increase.
Brick-and-mortar casino gaming generated revenue of $12.4 billion in the quarter, a decrease of 0.9 percent year-over-year.
In Q324, 29 of 35 commercial gaming jurisdictions operational last year generated increased year-over-year revenue. This resulted in an 8.9% year-over-year increase in state and local taxes tied directly to gaming revenue, with commercial gaming operators contributing $3.79 billion in taxes in the quarter.
The “Commercial Gaming Revenue Tracker” provides state-by-state data from the U.S. commercial gaming industry’s financial performance based on state revenue reports. Currently, 37 states and the District of Columbia feature commercial gaming markets, including casino gaming, sports betting, and igaming.
