Polla Chilena Questions Enforcement Of Supreme Court Ruling On Online Casinos

Chile.– February 25, 2026 – www.zonadeazar.com Polla Chilena de Beneficencia’s chairwoman, Macarena Carvallo, has raised concerns about the effective enforcement of the Supreme Court ruling that ordered the blocking of unauthorised online betting platforms in the country, stating that the measure has only been partially implemented.

Overview

In September 2025, the Supreme Court instructed telecom operators to block access to illegal gambling websites. According to the state-owned company, the decision has not yet been fully executed and the digital ecosystem continues to operate.

Details / Context

Carvallo explained that the main challenge lies in the nature of online platforms, which constantly change domains and URLs to bypass restrictions, requiring permanent monitoring and updated blocking systems.

From Polla’s perspective, around 3,500 gambling sites remain accessible in Chile, while the initial blocking targeted only a small number of well-known platforms, some of which quickly reappeared under new addresses.

The company is now waiting for telecom operators to formally report to the Court of Appeals on the real scope of the measures taken and the technical mechanisms used.

Role of telecoms and the regulator

Carvallo also questioned the supervisory process, highlighting the importance of the telecommunications authority in ensuring compliance with a judicial ruling.

In her view, the decision represents a turning point in the net neutrality debate, as it establishes that this is an illegal activity that must be effectively blocked.

Market impact

The conflict reflects the tension in Chile between:

  • the historically restricted gaming model
  • the expansion of the international online market
  • the ongoing legislative debate on regulation

At the same time, it reinforces Polla’s legal strategy to protect the authorised gaming system and the funds allocated to social causes.

Future outlook

The effective enforcement of the ruling will be crucial for the development of the Chilean market.

Its outcome will shape:

  • the progress of the online gambling bill
  • legal certainty for operators
  • the country’s regulatory model

The case is emerging as one of the key debates in Chile’s transition towards a potential regulated online gaming market.
