During a speech at the Casa de Mário Guimarães, the headquarters of the municipal legislature, Rui Palmeira highlighted concerns about the social impact of the rapid expansion of online betting.

The councilor cited data from Brazil’s Ministry of Health, stating that around 1.4 million Brazilians have been diagnosed with gambling disorder, emphasizing the need for a broader debate on betting promotion.

He also noted that the Brazilian National Congress is currently discussing potential restrictions on betting advertising nationwide.
