Brazil: EGB Group Targets Illegal Gambling with Education Efforts

Brazil.- May 05, 2026 www.zonadeazar.com EGB Group has reaffirmed its commitment to creating a safe and sustainable gambling ecosystem in Brazil, positioning itself as an active part of the solution to combat the country’s illegal gambling market.

During the Public Policy Forum for Digital Advertising, organised by IAB Brazil in Brasília, Chief Business Officer Hugo Baungartner highlighted the key role that education and public awareness must play in distinguishing regulated operators from unauthorised platforms.

At the heart of this challenge lies the need for the public to clearly understand which operators are legal and which are not — a distinction that depends directly on formal, regulated advertising, which acts as a reliable point of reference for consumers.

Hugo Baungartner, Chief Business Officer at Esportes Gaming Brasil, commented:

“The regulated market wants to be part of the solution. For the sector to be sustainable, we need to invest in education and public awareness, helping users clearly understand who operates within the rules and who does not. Advertising plays a crucial role in this — it is not just marketing, it is a consumer protection mechanism.”

The debate also highlighted how restricting the communication capabilities of licensed operators can unintentionally blur the lines between legal and illegal providers, making it difficult for consumers to make informed decisions.

The SPA’s General Coordinator for Betting Oversight, Renato Pucci, added:

“When licensed brands cannot communicate effectively, a vacuum is created that illegal operators are quick to exploit. Users do not stop seeking entertainment, but without clear signals, they lose the ability to differentiate between safe, regulated environments and unauthorised platforms.”

The forum brought together key industry players and policymakers to discuss the future of digital advertising within Brazil’s regulated betting market, with a shared understanding that collaboration between regulators and operators is essential.
