Brazil: Betting Sponsorship Deals Could Fall by Up to 57% in 2027
Brazil.- 20 October 2026 | www.zonadeazar.com Brazilian football clubs could face a significant reduction in betting sponsorship revenue during 2027, even if the Government modifies or repeals the current prohibition on online gambling.
According to sports marketing industry estimates, sponsorship agreements could return to the values recorded before July 2025, when commercial deals began reaching unusually high levels.
The uncertainty follows the introduction of Provisional Measure 1,394/2026, which prohibited online betting operations in Brazil.
Flamengo Faces Potential 57% Decline
Flamengo provides one of the clearest examples of the rapid growth in betting sponsorship values.
In December 2021, the club signed a principal sponsorship agreement with Pixbet worth R$48 million annually.
The figure subsequently increased to R$115 million before reaching R$268 million through a Betano agreement in August 2025.
This represented an increase of 459% over just 56 months.
However, current industry projections suggest that Flamengo’s principal sponsorship could return to approximately R$115 million per year, representing a potential decline of 57%.
Fluminense Also Faces Revenue Risks
Fluminense experienced a 259% increase in sponsorship value over the same period.
The agreement considered in the analysis currently represents approximately R$53 million annually.
Industry estimates suggest this revenue could decline to R$40 million, equivalent to a 24.5% reduction.
These figures represent market projections and do not constitute officially announced reductions to the clubs’ sponsorship agreements.
Implications for Player Salaries and Club Finances
Betting sponsorship agreements became an important source of funding for Brazilian football clubs.
A study covering 14 Série A teams found that principal sponsorship agreements with betting operators represented, on average, more than three months of player salaries per year.
A reduction in this revenue could affect several financial commitments.
Fluminense faces difficulties meeting payments under the Centralised Enforcement Regime (RCE), a mechanism designed to organise outstanding debts, including employment-related liabilities.
Meanwhile, Flamengo faces financial commitments involving infrastructure projects and player transfers.
These include a payment associated with the signing of Lucas Paquetá, due to West Ham in January 2027.
Next Steps and Impact
The future of betting sponsorship agreements will depend on regulatory decisions, operators’ financial circumstances and commercial conditions within Brazilian football.
Even if a regulated betting market is restored, industry observers believe sponsorship values may not return to the levels reached during 2025 and 2026.
For football clubs, the situation highlights the importance of diversifying sponsorship partnerships, reviewing budgets and strengthening alternative revenue streams.
The debate demonstrates the substantial role betting operators have played in Brazilian football finances and the potential consequences of reducing their commercial presence.
