Zona de Azar Ireland – Gambling Legislation in Ireland: Divergence on Beneficial Sweepstakes
Ireland.- 02 May 2024 www.zonadeazar.com The debate on the gambling legislation in Ireland recently highlighted divergences on even charitable raffles in the Gambling Regulation Law Project (GRB).
The Minister of State, James Browne, requests a proposal for alteration to introduce these draws in the rules established in the draft law, citing concerns about possible abuses of the status of charitable institutions in activities related to online games.
Delays in the approval of the law are attributed to disputes over reforms to the penal code and financing of horsefights. Uncertainty persists due to the lack of a clear timeline for the enactment of the law, prolonging the wait for the creation of the Games Regulatory Authority.
The horsefight sector expresses concerns about a possible ban on gambling advertising on radio and television during certain hours. These divergences need to be resolved to guarantee open and effective legislation in the country’s gaming sector.
