After three days of live, systems testing, state regulators gave SugarHouse Casino the green light to launch its round-the-clock, Internet-based sports book Friday, and PlaySugarHouse.com is open for business at this writing.

“We are excited to make history in bringing the first online sportsbook to sports fans in the state of Pennsylvania,” said Richard Swartz, president of Rush Street Interactive, the SugarHouse affiliate that operates the casino’s online platform.

Open to registered players who are 21 years old and betting from within state lines, the online sports book at SugarHouse is open to players using all devices except Apple’s iPhones and iPads.

Casino officials explained Friday that the PlaySugarHouse.com iOS app for Pennsylvania has not been approved yet by the Apple store – the gatekeeper for iPhone applications – due to changes in Apple’s policies.

Rush Street Interactive and other Pennsylvania operators have said they are working diligently with Apple to close that loop, but with betting good-to-go from all desktop and laptop devices, SugarHouse and its partner said they saw no reason to delay getting started.

The company noted in a press release Friday that its RSI-supported sportsbooks at SugarHouse in Philadelphia and Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh have generated more than 50 percent of all retail sports betting in Pennsylvania since the market opened in November.

Several other casinos are expected to open their online sports books throughout the summer months.
