Brazil: Bets CPI Hears Influencer Jon Vlogs and MarjoSports Owner

Brazil – May 27, 2025 – www.zonadeazar.com – This Tuesday (May 27), starting at 10:00 AM, Brazil’s Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) into online betting — known as CPI das Bets — will hear the testimony of businessman Jorge Barbosa Dias, owner of the betting platform MarjoSports, and digital influencer Luan Kovarik, widely known as Jon Vlogs, creator of the betting platform Jonbet.
Summoned by Senator Soraya Thronicke (Podemos-MS), the CPI rapporteur, Kovarik will testify as an investigated party (RQS 172/2024 – CPIBETS). According to the request, the influencer holds “significant relevance” in the online sports betting market due to his large user base on Jonbet and his leadership in a “massive” promotional campaign for Blaze, another major betting platform.
“Kovarik’s presence is crucial to clarify the responsibility of digital influencers in the creation and promotion of betting platforms, as well as to investigate potential ethical conflicts surrounding these practices,” stated Thronicke.
Jorge Barbosa Dias will appear as a witness, also at the senator’s request (RQS 257/2024 – CPIBETS). He is a partner at JBD Comunicação e Tecnologia Ltda., the company behind the MarjoSports brand, which was recently licensed by the Rio de Janeiro State Lottery (Loterj) to operate sports betting. Lawmakers aim to understand the criteria used for accreditation and to investigate suspected ties between the company and money laundering schemes.
Established in November 2024, the Bets CPI is investigating potential links between the online betting sector and criminal organizations or illicit activities, as well as the role of influencers in popularizing online gambling platforms.
