Brazil: Soraya Thronicke Proposes Ban on “Jogo do Tigrinho” and Online Gambling

Brazil, June 11, 2025 — www.zonadeazar.com — Senator Soraya Thronicke (Podemos-MS) presented her final report this Tuesday (June 10) to the Bets Parliamentary Inquiry Commission (CPI das Bets). In the report, she advocates for a ban on online gambling games, including the popular “Jogo do Tigrinho,” and calls for the indictment of digital influencers and gaming industry entrepreneurs, as well as the creation of new criminal offenses to tackle illicit practices in the sector.

Commission chairman, Senator Dr. Hiran (PP-RR), announced that he will negotiate with Senate President Davi Alcolumbre to extend the CPI’s deadline so that the report can be voted on next week. The commission’s activities are set to conclude this Saturday (June 14).

Soraya supports a ban on so-called “online slot machines,” but defends the continued operation of sports betting (bets), citing their positive impact on sports investment. She argues that games like “Jogo do Tigrinho” have “exclusively harmful effects,” such as addiction and difficulties in government oversight.

The senator also calls for the indictment of 16 individuals, including popular digital influencers Virgínia Fonseca and Deolane Bezerra, accusing them of fraud by “pretending to place high-value bets using accounts subsidized by the platforms themselves,” thereby misleading their followers with false promises of easy winnings.

If the report is approved, it will be forwarded to the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Federal Police. The document also proposes an addendum to the Executive’s regulations, including 20 measures to strengthen oversight and the creation of three new crimes to curb illegal activities in the sector.
