Brazilian Influencer Pays Fine to Exit Esportes da Sorte Deal

Brazil.- July 2, 2025 www.zonadeazar.com  Popular Brazilian influencer Virginia Fonseca has officially ended her partnership with online betting platform Esportes da Sorte amid growing controversy surrounding influencers’ involvement in the gambling industry, intensified by the ongoing Betting CPI in the Brazilian Senate.

To finalize the termination, Virginia paid a fine of approximately R$ 30 million, a figure reflecting both the size of the contract and the public backlash impacting her image.

Summoned to testify on May 13, Virginia faced allegations of profiting from the losses of bettors using her referral links, reportedly resulting in a loss of over one million followers, according to digital market analysts.

During her testimony in the Senate, she denied receiving commissions based on player losses, stating she only had a performance bonus clause typical in advertising contracts.

However, the final report of the Betting CPI, presented by Senator Soraya Thronicke, concluded that Virginia benefited from a bonus model tied to betting volume, deemed “abusive” by authorities, and recommended her indictment for fraud while also highlighting potential misleading advertising practices on her social media.

Sources close to the influencer stated that terminating the contract was a strategic move to protect her reputation and facilitate future collaborations with brands that value social responsibility and ethical practices.

This case highlights the need for greater transparency between influencers and gaming platforms, and reinforces the discussion on setting clear boundaries for betting advertisements on social media.
