Chile.– October 16th, 2025 – www.zonadeazar.com Authorities and representatives of the Mapuche people in Chile have presented a joint proposal to develop a tourism-oriented casino in the La Araucanía Region, aiming to boost the local economy, promote inclusion, and strengthen cultural identity in southern Chile.

Overview

The project seeks to generate employment, community development, and sustainable tourism in one of the country’s most promising regions.
It is the result of collaboration between gaming entrepreneurs, Mapuche community leaders, and regional authorities, centred on a model of economic growth with cultural respect and social responsibility.

Details / Context

Plans include a convention centre, hotel, gaming area, cultural venue, and job training spaces designed to benefit local communities.
Organisers emphasised that the goal is not only tourism attraction but also education, employment, and economic empowerment for indigenous communities, ensuring active participation in the casino’s management.

Project promoter Ricardo Melillán described the initiative as “an opportunity for reconciliation and shared progress,” highlighting the vision of a participatory and culturally respectful business model.

Future Outlook

The proposal will be submitted to the Superintendence of Gaming Casinos (SCJ) and the Ministry of Economy for regulatory and environmental review.
If approved, it would become Chile’s first casino with recognised indigenous participation, setting a precedent for inclusion and regional development.

Industry Impact

The La Araucanía Casino Project positions Chile as a pioneer in cultural inclusion and social innovation within the gaming industry.

Its model could inspire similar projects across Latin America linking tourism, responsible gaming, and local identity as drivers of sustainable progress.
