MGM Projects Over $10B in Annual Gaming Revenue for Thailand

Thailand.- 9th May 2025 www.zonadeazar.com According to Macao Daily, Ed Bowers, President of Global Development at MGM International, shared his outlook on Thailand’s gaming potential during the G2E Asia Forum. He stated that the country could become one of the most attractive destinations for integrated resort investment in Asia, with the possibility of exceeding $10 billion in gross gaming revenue annually—provided that legislative and infrastructure frameworks are properly aligned.
Bowers referred to Thailand as a rising force in the regional market, presenting a scale of opportunity that is likely to draw the attention of leading global operators. While Macau has traditionally focused on the VIP segment, it has gradually diversified its offerings to include cultural, culinary, and eco-friendly experiences—enhancing its appeal beyond gaming alone.
He also highlighted Singapore as a successful example of integrated resort development, where gaming is combined with a variety of non-gaming amenities that boost tourism and create employment, while also enforcing responsible gambling measures to protect local communities.
Bowers noted that other Asian countries still face notable challenges. In South Korea, although there is some governmental backing, local participation restrictions continue to limit growth. Similarly, Vietnam’s gaming sector struggles with investor hesitancy due to limited domestic access.
He further touched on MGM’s upcoming integrated resort in Osaka, Japan—a project covering over 68,000 square meters and featuring hotel, dining, and gaming components. Despite regulatory complexity and construction costs, Bowers expressed confidence in Japan’s strong infrastructure and strategic location, which he believes will contribute to the success of the project.
