New York Approves $8 Billion Casino Project at Metropolitan Park

USA – May 21, 2025 – www.zonadeazar.com The New York State Assembly has approved a bill authorizing billionaire Steve Cohen, owner of the New York Mets, to develop a $8 billion casino resort in Metropolitan Park, near Willets Point. The measure passed with a 138-7 vote, marking a major step forward for the ambitious plan.

In partnership with Hard Rock International, the project will convert nearly 50 acres of asphalt into a modern complex featuring a casino, hotel, green spaces, and entertainment venues, bringing jobs and economic growth to the area.

Assemblymember Larinda Hooks, sponsor of the bill, stated:

“This is a chance to bring real investment and transformation to our local economy.”

However, State Senator Jessica Ramos, who represents the district, voiced her opposition, citing concerns over community impact and transparency.

“I won’t introduce legislation to alienate public green space in Corona for a casino,” she said, though she admitted to the New York Post:

“I don’t know if I have the power to block it.”
